The New Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital

Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital is replacing all of its inpatient care facilities at an estimated cost of $105 million. 

All hospitals in California must be rebuilt or renovated to be able to withstand a major earthquake. Although the state is requiring the work, it is providing no funding to help hospitals reach this deadline goal originally set for 2013.

The new 52-bed, state-of-the-art community and surgical subspecialty hospital will be constructed adjacent to the current hospital, to assure there will be no interruption of services during construction.  The project began with soil stabilization work in December 2009.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held in March 2010. Construction on new clinical buildings is estimated to begin in June, and will take about 28 months to complete.

The new hospital will include:

•		Two medical / surgical inpatient units (24-bed and 20-bed units) with improved patient privacy, with all private rooms
•		An 8-bed definitive observation intensive care unit with flexibility to care for patients of varying critical intensity
•		A dedicated endoscopy suite (currently performed in our Medical Intensive Care Unit)
•		20 Emergency Department treatment rooms (up from the current 8 rooms)
•		Six surgical suites for inpatients and outpatients
•		An expanded wound management center with four hyperbaric oxygen chambers and six treatment rooms
•		Comprehensive lab, radiology, physical therapy and respiratory therapy services
•		Other centers of excellence under investigation and study
